What does Tamil teens think about caste?

I want to know about how teens of my age across the world who speaks Tamil think about caste. So, I just thought why should not I ask about the opinions of my friends. I thought all of our thoughts will be monotonous but surprisingly enough I was wrong. It made me realise that we have to understand all the perspective of people to finally decide about certain things and we have to still try to educate ourselves on these matters.

Do you believe in caste?

If yes or no, answer why?

1: I think blood group is the only think that divides us, nothing more.

2: There are better things to work on other than caste.

3:There is always a group everywhere we go. If we have to take out caste, and stood one as a Tamil, we will also be divided as Tamil, Malayalis ,so on and on. Even we stood together as an Indian, there will be another division in the world. But I won't say I am okay with inequality and discrimination in caste system. The inequality thing is detestable. I am okay with the idea of people grouping together as long as there is no inequality.

4: I don't like caste. Nothing ever good happened to me because of caste. 

5:We all are humans. What are we going to achieve by discriminating against others?

Have you ever felt that you are getting discriminated because of your caste?

1: As a muslim, I never got discriminated for caste but I have seen those who have got discriminated for their caste.

2: No. I have never felt discriminated for my caste. I have seen people judge other people for their caste but not mine though.

3: No. I have never felt that.

4: I never got looked down on but the other necessities  like college counselling which were given to other people were never given to me because I was looked as a"upper caste" people.

5:No. I never personally got discriminated.

Do you want to share about that story?

1:I know a girl who is from a lower caste in my school. Her appearance looks slightly different but my other       classmates said it's because of her caste.

4: In the earlier days, people of FC and OC discriminated people of other caste and I am against it. Then when we become democratic, government abolished all privileges for our people. I am not asking for maximum. But I want scholarships like others in my age do too. I don't like that I am not given something like others just because of my caste but my marks were just brushed on.

Does your parents "allow" you to marry someone who is not your caste?

1:No.There is caste  in our religion too. I don't think my parent would be okay with that.

2:No. My family discriminate against low caste people, there is no way they will ever let me to marry someone of other caste.

3:No. My parents won't allow it because they think I'll suffer from it.

4:Yes. They are okay with that as long as the boy is well earning and his family is good.

5:As long as the other person isn't someone who is lower than our caste, my family is okay with it.

Do you as a parent "allow" your child to marry someone in other caste? If no, then why?

1: Definitely, yes!!!

2: No. I will be okay as of now ' saying caste is wrong' but when we will be in our parent's age I think I won't be okay with my child marrying someone of another caste.

3:I'll see if the family is good. I won't mind the caste. All that matters is whether they are good or not.

4:Yes. Why not?

5:Yes. I will as long the other person is good. Character is a must.

What do you in general think about caste system?

1: I think there is no need to divide humans like that.

2: I think caste is a waste of time. Someone just blabbered whatever came to their mind and now all of us are following it.

3:Caste is a major thing when it comes to address things. I don't like that ones people's caste is mentioned some people just can't look past it. Caste is determining how people look at others and that is irking me more than anything.

4:I think talking about caste is unwanted, waste of time and useless. As a good student, I can't even get into a good college with excellent marks. The competition is always tough and I was really stressed. I wish there were more open sources.

5:I think caste is okay as long as it's used for identity. I hate it when they took it as a element to compare people using their caste.
